You’re Doing the Inner Work, But Still Feel Stuck? Here’s Why
You’re doing your inner work. You have a vision of who your next-level self is meant to be. You’ve even started taking aligned action. But still… your life feels like it’s on repeat. You keep attracting the same type of relationships, the same income level, and the same emotional patterns. It feels like you’ve outgrown this old version of yourself, yet you haven’t been able to fully shift your identity into the new version of you.
If this feels familiar, I want you to know—you are not broken. There is nothing horribly wrong with you. What’s happening is that you’re still stuck in your old identity. And in this article, I’m going to share with you the signs that it’s time to shift your identity—and most importantly—how you can break free in a soft, feminine and empowered way.
Why Is Identity More Important Than Habits?
Most women, including myself, try to change their lives by changing their habits. But here’s the truth: you cannot consistently act in a way that is inconsistent with who you believe you are.
If, deep down, you still believe you’re not good enough… that things never go your way… that you're a people pleaser or always struggling… then you will unconsciously self-sabotage your progress. You may start new habits, but if your beliefs and self-image don’t align with those actions, they won’t last.
For example, let’s say you commit to getting healthy and start going to the gym. But if you still believe that you’ll never have your dream body, that working out is too hard for someone like you, or that the gym isn’t "for you"—then you might go a few times, but soon you’ll stop. That deep belief doesn’t match your behavior, so you return to your old ways.
This is also why so many people can’t stick to their New Year’s resolutions. It’s not that they aren’t trying. It’s that their identity and beliefs aren’t aligned with their actions.
So if you’re trying to improve your life and it’s not working, the missing piece might be your identity work.
Think of your identity like a thermostat. If your thermostat is set to a certain temperature, and you try to raise the heat, the system will bring you back to that pre-set level. Even if you want more in life, your internal thermostat will pull you back to your “normal”—unless you reprogram your beliefs.
5 Signs It’s Time to Shift Your Identity
1. Constant Internal Conflict
You dream of more, but your habits don’t align. You want to be confident and assertive, but in conversations, you shrink back and can’t speak up. This means your desires are evolving—but your self-image hasn’t caught up yet.
2. Repeating the Same Patterns
You keep ending up in the same relationships. Your money cycle never improves. Your self-worth remains low, despite all your effort. It’s not because you’re lazy—it’s because your internal story hasn’t changed.
3. Self-Sabotage in Disguise
You start strong with new habits, a new business idea, or a wellness goal. But suddenly, you lose motivation. This isn’t a lack of drive—it’s your unconscious mind protecting your old identity, because that old identity feels safe, even if it’s making you miserable.
4. Emotional Triggers from the Past
You’ve done so much inner work, but certain comments or situations still shake your confidence. That’s your nervous system responding from a past version of you—the version who had to survive, not thrive.
5. Waiting for External Validation
You want to become “her”—the radiant, confident, feminine, abundant version of you. But you’re waiting for the perfect partner, more money, a better body, or a perfect moment. The truth? You must become her first, and then everything you desire will align with that version of you.
How to Actually Shift Your Identity as a Woman
Here’s how to shift your identity in a feminine and empowered way:
1. Awareness and Honesty
Ask yourself: What version of myself am I still loyal to?
Take your journal and write it all down. What does she believe? How is she holding you back? How does this show up in your daily life? Be honest. Reflect on the moments where you tried to grow, but self-sabotaged yourself. You can’t shift what you don’t acknowledge.
2. Decide Who You Want to Become
Who is this next-level version of you?
How does she move? What does she tolerate? What does she believe about herself? What are her values? You can’t upgrade your life until you upgrade the vision you have of yourself.
3. Rewire Your Subconscious Mind
Use powerful tools like affirmations, journaling, mirror work, NLP, or emotional healing to shift your beliefs. This is more than positive thinking—it’s about changing what feels normal to you and how you see yourself on a deep level.
4. Embody Her Daily
Identity work is not just mindset—it’s about embodiment. Just like feminine energy is felt and lived, so is this new identity. Show up as her daily, especially when no one is watching. Ask yourself: What would the new version of me do in this moment?
Shifting your identity isn’t about fixing yourself—it’s about remembering who you truly are. You’re not stuck because you’re broken. You’re stuck because your identity needs to evolve.
The moment you begin living from your next-level self—before the relationship, before the money, before the external proof—is the moment everything starts to change. Your outer world reflects your inner world. Be her now.
The confident, radiant, feminine version of you is already within. All you need to do is let her rise.
